Looks like most of the Pearsonville junkyard is history. A massive location in the Mojave containing classic cars and trucks from the ‘50s to the ‘70s as well as a quarter mile dirt track, it had been sitting idle for many years after the death of the owner. In 2008 Troy Paiva and Joe Riefer were able to negotiate access for night photography and light painting workshops.
I had the pleasure of attending the first two and they were a big boost to my nascent night photography pursuits as well as a good time with other photographers from all over.
But the word is that the crushers have started and the family is clearing the space out.
More on Joe’s blog:
A crew will be living at the yard full-time, and they hope to complete the work by the end of January. About 200 cars in the NW section of the yard will be spared from the jaws of the crusher. We won’t know whether the location will still be suitable for night photography workshops until next month.
